KYBELLA®
Have you noticed a bit of extra fullness under your chin? It’s something many people experience, whether it’s always been there, developed gradually over the years, or appeared more recently. This gentle change, known medically as submental fullness and often called a “double chin,” is simply a natural part of how our bodies age and change over time. The good news is that this can be effectively treated with Kybella, an injectable treatment designed to reduce under-chin fullness and enhance your natural contours.
About Kybella
The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid, which is a molecule your body naturally uses to break down and absorb dietary fat. When Kybella is injected under the chin, it works by destroying fat cells in that area. This leads to a visible reduction in under-chin fullness. Once those fat cells are eliminated, they can’t store or accumulate fat again, meaning that once you’ve reached your desired results, you typically won’t need further treatments.
When you come in for your Kybella treatment, your provider will begin by cleansing the area under your chin and may mark small injection sites to guide precise placement. A numbing agent or ice may be applied to help keep you comfortable during the procedure.
The treatment itself involves a series of small injections under the chin, which usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes. You may feel a slight stinging or burning sensation as the product is injected, but this is generally well-tolerated.
How much treatment will I need?
The number of Kybella treatments needed varies for each person, depending on the amount of fullness under the chin and your desired results. Most people need 2 to 4 treatments, but some may require up to 6 sessions for optimal results.
Treatments are usually spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart to allow your body time to break down and eliminate the destroyed fat cells between sessions. During your consultation, your provider will assess your chin area and create a personalized treatment plan to achieve your goals.

What's the downtime?
Kybella treatments generally have minimal downtime. Most people can resume normal activities immediately after the procedure, though some may experience swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site. These side effects are usually mild and subside within a few days to a couple of weeks.

Are there any side effects?
Neurotoxin injections are very common and low-risk procedures. The most reported side effects include headaches, minor bruising, and swelling at the injection site, although these are rare. Your nurse injector will cover all potential risks before treatment.
